As a firm of Independent Chartered Building Surveyors we have long been members of the Independent Surveyors Association – a group representing members who are either partners or sole practitioners who run their own practices and are not owned by financial or corporate institutions. It provides us with a voice to the RICS [Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors] and a means of networking and continuing professional development. The Independent Surveyors Association has recently changed its name to the Independent Surveyors and Valuers Association or ISVA. This perhaps associated with the introduction of the Registered Valuer designation by the RICS.
This not the first time that letters ISVA have been associated with our profession, back in the day the ISVA stood for the Incorporated Society Of Valuers And Auctioneers organisation established in 1967 by the amalgamation of the Valuers’ Institution and the Incorporated Society of Auctioneers and Landed Property Agents, in 1999 the Society was merged with the RICS and its members took on RICS qualifications [MRICS or FRICS] and dropped their ISVA nomenclature. Now the letters are back, still associated with surveying but just a little bit different. Welcome back old friends”
