Last week we went to three surveys and each time found that the estate agent had mucked up the appointment, forgotten to get the keys back fromm the gas fitter or in the case of Reside Residential in New Cross didn’t have the keys at all – ever!. They booked the appointment on the basis that hey could get in to the block of flats by ringing every other flat until someone answered and then let them in! I suppose their tagline “modern methods based on traditional values” could be defined as selling properties without the keys but it seems pretty unprofessional to us, traditionally we use a key to get in the door!
To make it worse when we called rather than apologising when asked who was paying our abortive fee they rather firmly and impolitely advised us that they would blacklist us, fair enough but blacklist us from what? Another unprofessional move really. Their website goes on to say “Reside is an Independent Estate Agent striving at all times to offer a personal, professional and friendly service to all clientele, a business that has been built on recommendations!” [LINK]
We’re not their clientele but the approach taken to surveyors trying to get on with their job was neither professional no friendly and unlikely to persuade us to help build their business by recommendation. Our general advice would be to use an agent who does actually hold the key to a property they are trying to sell, remember you are paying a decent fee to an agent to act in a professional manner, make appointments that they can deliver and to sell your home for you.
Yours, the Grumpy Out of Pocket Surveyor!
PS the others had the good grace to apologise properly and arrange a new appointment for us so will not be named and shamed!
